You may have already seen Light Writing in action, but for those who haven't, a quick explanation- The technique is almost 100 years ago, when Picasso (that man just loves to contribute to the art world..) decided to sketch a centaur mid-air using a torch -
The photograph was taken by Gjon Mili - "I confronted him [Picasso] with a photograph, taken in darkness but showing a skater's leap traced with lights attached to the skates. Picasso reacted instantly. Intrigued, he began drawing with his finger in the thin air." They arranged to meet at a pottery in Vallauris. In the dark, after Mili fired his flash, Picasso sketched a centaur in the air -
Lichtfaktor, a group of artists from Cologne, Germany, are setting the bar high for other light artists all over the world. The group have made the plain and simple (a trash can for example) into fluid, moving, illuminative works of art, attracting the attention of major companies wanting to commission the group for their own means - the likes of Philips, Current TV and Sprint amongst them.
The Group first kicked off in 2006. Marcel Panne ($ehvermögen) , David Lüpschen (Jiar) and
Tim Fehske (10X) first worked together when Panne was asked to invent some new material for an event with the theme 'Energy in Motion'. Fehske has since left the group, but $ehvermögen (photographer and VJ since 1997 with many years of experience in the event field) and JIAR (communications designer and graffiti artist) are still experimenting with light on the streets.
The entire streetscape is the artist's 'canvas,' not merely acting as a backdrop, but is incorporated into the work itself - Lichtfaktor are also kind enough to offer a tutorial, here it is

Graffiti Creator

Graffiti is a form of art that is used to express the artists feeling and emotions. Just like pouring out your feelings in a diary, only using a different medium. Although many people see graffiti as a nuisance and also see it as vandalism, it is hard to not be interested in its unique style and free expression. Graffiti is a social expression, often a voice of the discontented youth, and is part of the urban world around us
It is generally harmless, vibrant and creative and often brightens up walls and buildings. Graffiti has many different styles but the two most common types are tagging and hip hop graffiti. Different styles of graffiti fall into different categories.
Hip hop graffiti pieces are usually very large and are created using aerosol spray paints. They usually are a complex mix of letters or a cartoon sketch. Hip hop graffiti usually takes longer to achieve as it takes a lot of planning and designing first
Tagging graffiti is used as a means to 'mark territory'. This type of graffiti is used as a way to mark one's presence, to say 'so and so was here'. Often the letter styles in one territory will be different to another and signatures are very territorial indeed. Some graffiti is racially motivated or sometimes even politically motivated and bears some relation to urban street fighting
Commercial graffiti is seen as a big problem. This involves private organisations paying graffiti artists to spray paint advertising logos on walkways and buildings so that they can promote their product. This is an illegal form of advertising

The Best of Graffiti in World

The tiny tear drop shaped island in the Indian ocean has become the latest hotspot for tourists. After the end of the 30 years civil war, and all the travel advisories lifted, tourists just can't wait to head out to the exotic island of Sri Lanka. The friendly and hospitable people of Sri Lanka, in their turn, with hands folded and 'Ayobowan' on their lips are ready to make your holiday the most memorable you've ever had
Tourism in Sri Lanka can, broadly, be divided into three categories. The beaches, the cities of cultural, historical and religious importance and last but definitely not the least, the nature reserves. Do not be fooled by the size of the country. The tiny island is rich with places to visit from all these three categories. Join me as I unravel the wonders of Sri Lanka
The bustling city of Colombo is the largest in Sri Lanka. It is about an hour's drive from the Bandarnaike international airport. Just like other metropolitan cities, Colombo is a hub of activity. There are many places worth seeing. It being a coastal town, you can enjoy stunning views of the sea along with the throngs that head to Galle Face greens in the evening
If deserted beaches are what you are after, then you can head to other places, which shall figure later in my list. Other than that, you can visit the National museum, the National zoological gardens, and the Independence square which was built to mark Sri Lanka's freedom from the British. You can shop your heart out at Majestic City, Liberty plaza or Odel. It is easy to commute around the city, with buses, radio taxis and auto rickshaws called tuk-tuks locally, readily available
Sri Lanka isn't just about beaches. If you travel inland there are many treasures to be discovered. If you are a fan of the cooler climate, there aren't many places in Sri Lanka but Nuwara Eliya would definitely be one of them
